The teaser trailer is only a few seconds long, but IO gave a few more details on the website for Project 007, which the studio noted is a working title. Project 007 will “feature a wholly original Bond story exclusively as a video game,” one in which players must “earn their 00 status,” the studio said in a news release. Last year Grand Theft Auto: Vice City was removed from stores just as suddenly due to a licensing dispute over a song in the game, and returned within a month.Hitman developer IO Interactive announced Project 007 on Thursday, a new game starring James Bond that will tell the British Secret Service operative’s origin story. It is possible that the game's poor performance prompted Activision to end its license for the franchise early, though there are any number of other issues that could have also caused the games to be pulled. Activision then shut down Eurocom, the studio that had developed the game, in December. The latest game in the series, 007 Legends was poorly received by critics when it launched in October last year. It is likely that the games were pulled due to an issue with the James Bond license, though Activision's deal with MGM and EON to distribute games based on the series is not supposed to expire until 2014. The only exception appears to be Blood Stone, which is still available on PC if downloaded through Games for Windows Live even though it is missing from all other stores.Īctivision has not commented on what caused the games to be removed. The same games, along with GoldenEye Reloaded, are also no longer available to download through Xbox Live or PlayStation Network.
